A new lighting system at the Philips Stadium should ensure that the turf grows and recovers under ideal conditions. PSV is the first club to use the system with a specially developed combination of energy-efficient Philips LED and infrared lamps and was developed by Signify. De Enk Groen & Golf, VTI Horst and Westhoven Agro Advies also have a role in the successful application of the new lighting.

This lighting technology is linked to various sensors that continuously measure environmental factors such as humidity, temperature and daylight. All collected data is processed by a central control system that accurately determines how much light and heat the grass needs to grow optimally.

Based on inputted light recipes and a thorough shadow study of the stadium, each part of the grass receives exactly the right amount of light and heat. The process is fully automated, meaning the grass never receives too much or too little lighting. An important feature of the system is that the Philips LED and infrared lights can be dimmed separately from each other. This ensures that the grass receives exactly the additional exposure and warmth it needs, in addition to natural daylight, to remain vital and strong.

In addition to improving grass condition, the system provides significant energy savings. An energy savings of 50% has already been realized due to the efficiency of the lamps. Added to this is the savings realized by dimming the lamps based on the needs of the grass.

With this step, PSV underlines its commitment to technological progress and sporting excellence. Not only by ensuring a perfect playing field, but also by using energy efficiently.
