Head coach Roger Schmidt decided this week not to renew his expiring contract at the end of this season. He explained his decision Thursday afternoon after training at De Herdgang: 'By creating clarity, we can fully focus on our goals.'
Roger Schmidt: "In recent weeks we (the PSV management and Roger Schmidt, ed.) have had very intensive talks. I used the international period to think about my future as coach and told the board why I made this choice this week. I am very proud to be head coach of this wonderful club and I have a selection, with which I can perform at a very high level this season. I feel that I can end this summer in a successful and wonderful way. I value that very much and for that I want to do everything I can."
"There are hugely important weeks coming up," Schmidt continued. "The entire staff and team can fully focus on that now that there is clarity around my position. It was an incredibly difficult decision, because I work here with a lot of pleasure. I am happy at PSV and want to emphasize that this decision has nothing to do with a lack of prospects. Everyone who cares about the club can assume that in the coming months I will give everything to achieve the highest possible in every area. Hopefully with filled stadiums and the support from the stands."
