This is how PSV can winter in Europe

PSV has already been eliminated from contention for the next round of the UEFA Champions League, but Phillip Cocu's team still has reaching Europa League football in its own hands. There are several scenarios for that.

Route to Europa League
FC Bayern Munich and Atlético Madrid are already through in the Champions League. Atlético won all its matches so far and is on 12 points, FC Bayern Munich lost only to Atlético and is thus on 9. Both FC Rostov and PSV have not yet won and played each other equally. They are on one point and will compete for a Europa League ticket.

PSV win
If PSV wins against Atlético in Madrid, it will strike a big blow in the battle for winterization. PSV has a fairly positive starting point against Rostov with the 2-2 draw in Russia, since in the event of a tie the mutual result is leading. If the Russians do not win against FC Bayern Munich, PSV also gains a points lead over the club from Rostov-on-Don. They can then only reach the Europa League by winning against PSV in Eindhoven. Failing that, PSV only needs a draw to advance. If Rostov does surprise against Bayern Munich, it remains tied and PSV only has the advantage of scoring two away goals in Russia.

PSV draw
The same applies to a draw: taking a point could give PSV a lead over FC Rostov, but if Rostov snatches points from FC Bayern Munich, PSV could easily go into the match against Rostov with a "deficit. However, a win over Rostov is only necessary if the Russians are above PSV in points after this round of play.

Loss PSV
With a win for Atlético, it is therefore perhaps even more important for PSV that FC Rostov does not stunt against FC Bayern Munich. After all, if that does happen, PSV must win at home. If both teams lose or draw, a 0-0 or 1-1 draw is enough for PSV. Then the mutual result counts and that is in PSV's favor. In case of a 2-2 draw in Eindhoven, the goal difference will decide, if it turns out to be 3-3 or more, PSV will finish last.
