PSV - Ajax was a repeat of last season's championship match in terms of results. It finished 3-0 and the media praised Van Bommel's team, which is now five points ahead of rivals Ajax and Feyenoord. Statistics agency Gracenote published some striking figures about the match.
Pereiro is hoton Romário's heels
He is often praised for his goals in top matches, and on Sunday it was another hit for Gastón Pereiro against Ajax. The Uruguayan opened the scoring and that was already his fourth goal against Ajax in PSV service. The only South American who has scored more often against Ajax in the Eredivisie is Romário. The Brazilian made five against the Ajax players between 1988 and 1993.
Eighteen from six means a lot of good
After the victory over Ajax, PSV is still without a points loss for the sixth time after six rounds of play in the Eredivisie. In each of the previous five seasons in which the team did so, the Eindhoveners became national champions.
Lozano scored against thirteen opponents
Hirving Lozano did something he had previously failed to do against Ajax: score. The Mexican made it 3-0 on Sunday. Ajax was already the thirteenth premier league opponent Lozano scored against.
Bergwijn finds Lozano flawless
For Hirving Lozano 's 3-0, Steven Bergwijn gave the assist. Bergwijn already gave a total of six assists to Lozano in the Eredivisie. The only other player with more than one assist on the Mexican is Jorrit Hendrix (two). The only other combination of declarer and goal scorer in the past two Eredivisie seasons with six goals is Alireza Jahanbakhsh (assist) on Wout Weghorst (goal).
Six and thirteen in a row
The win marked the sixth win of the season in a row, but also the thirteenth Eredivisie game in a row without defeat for PSV. The longest running series of any team in the Eredivisie. The Eindhoveners last lost nationally to Willem II (5-0), which was on March 10, 2018.
Biggest lead at halftime of all time
The final score of 3-0 was also the half-time score. Never before had PSV led Ajax by greater figures at halftime. However, it was not unique: six times before, the margin after the first half was three goals in favor of PSV. The last time was on February 10, 2000 (4-0 home win after 3-0 at halftime).
A three-goal victory in a row against Ajax is special, of course, but it's extra special when it succeeds twice in a row. We managed that with Sunday's win, and a look in the history books shows that it was a long time ago. The last time was in the 1981 - 1982 season, when PSV won 3-0 and 4-0.
