Head coach Phillip Cocu was enthusiastic about PSV's team performance afterwards. Cocu saw his team respond well after a difficult start and therefore praised his team at FOX Sports. "We cross one off again, eight more to go," he said.
Fantastic goals
With that, the coach was referring to the league table. With eight games to go, PSV cherishes a lead of seven loss points over Ajax, which must win Sunday against Vitesse to keep the difference as large. "The first 10 minutes we got away well. We struggled with FC Utrecht's depth, but responded well. The goals by Stevie (Bergwijn, ed.) and Luuk (De Jong, ed.) were fantastic."
De Jong thought just do it
"I thought, the only thing I can do now is make an overhead kick," was the reaction of Luuk de Jong, who brilliantly shot PSV to 2-0. With an Utrecht defender at his back, the striker, who passed Ruud van Nistelrooy on PSV's all-time top scorer list (De Jong now has 79 goals, Van Nistelrooy 78), decided to try despite a difficult starting position. "That the ball then falls in like that is nice. You don't often score a goal like that."
'He does it more often sometimes
"He does it more often at training," Cocu laughed when asked about De Jong's goal. "And about Bergwijn's 3-0, everything was right. You need a lot of strength to make an action after a sprint of sixty meters and also score. He worked hard for this," said the head coach, who felt PSV played the game out in a controlled manner after that. "We got another step closer to our goal."
