With a stunned face, Luuk de Jong told his story after the 5-0 defeat against Willem II. The Tilburgers handed PSV the biggest defeat in the Eredivisie since 1964. "This hurts a lot," De Jong told FOX Sports.
'Overrun from the start'
"How this is possible," De Jong repeated Toine van Peperstraten's question. "We were a bit overrun by Willem II from the start, had no grip on them but 5-0 should never happen of course." According to the reserve captain, it was partly due to the difference in attitude between Willem II and PSV. "We have to blame ourselves that Willem II gave everything and we didn't. It just wasn't good. This hurts a lot. We really need to feel this."
'Should be ashamed of ourselves'
Head coach Phillip Cocu went a little further. Speaking to NOS, he said he was "extremely disappointed" in his team. "We should be ashamed of ourselves," Cocu said. "What we showed today was not the bottom line, but far below it. It didn't make sense at all. It was intolerable. So you see, we should not talk about a possible championship for a long time yet."
