Despite his late goal, Denzel Dumfries was disappointed with PSV's first game after the winter break. Against VVV-Venlo, PSV should have got much more than the 1-1 draw that his goal produced thought the captain.
Having to finish
"You have to keep going until the end. Always," Dumfries began at FOX Sports, but pleased with equalizer he hardly looked happy. "We make it so difficult for ourselves. We should have finished it long before halftime. It's sour when you have so many chances but don't score. You see that we can do it," Dumfries said.
Old patterns
The captain was strengthened in his analysis by Ernest Faber, who saw his team bogged down in old patterns throughout the match. "We created nine good chances. But we miss them and that does something to the team," said Faber, who then gave examples. "Guys start walking out of position, blaming each other again, no longer playing football through the sides as we had agreed. That made it increasingly difficult after halftime. We will really have to make steps on that."
Indeed, the start was good, Faber thought. "Given the chances in the first half, you should win thickly here. But in the end we should be happy with a draw."
'Good'
Lars Unnerstall returned Sunday to ground familiar to him. Ground where he had fondly left with a victory. "I think we could have been up 3-0, maybe 4-0 already in the first half. We played really well, had a lot of chances and defensively it was also good," he analyzed. And about Opoku's penalty: "I was still at it with the tip of my shoe. Unfortunately, it was too little."
