PSV will mark eighty years of the liberation of Eindhoven during the match with N.E.C.. The club will pay attention to the liberation in various ways. For example, the main force will play in a modified shirt and online we will tell stories about the club and city in wartime.
On September 12, 1944, Allies cross the border between Belgium and South Limburg for the first time and the liberation of the Netherlands begins. The first villages that will never again fall under German rule are Mesch and Eijsden. Two days after that, Maastricht is also liberated. On Sept. 18, six days after the initial recaptures from the Nazis, the 101st Airborne Division liberates Eindhoven as part of Operation Market Garden. This operation, which began on Sept. 17, was a large-scale airborne operation aimed at capturing strategic bridges over the rivers in the Netherlands, with the goal of rapidly advancing to the Ruhr area in Germany.
Because PSV attaches great importance to the awareness within its own supporters about the value of freedom and the atrocities of the war, the club is paying extra attention to the liberation. There is extra attention around PSV N.E.C. for the stories of Eindhoveners during the war and on the match shirts there is a special text dedicated to the events of that time. So that we do not forget, continue to learn from the past and above all honor the liberators.
