While many teams are still preparing for the new season, the real work starts for Young PSV on Saturday. Then the team of coach Peter Uneken opens the Keuken Kampioen Divisie with a home match against Excelsior.
Preparation
In recent weeks, Young PSV mainly prepared via training sessions for the first league match of this season. Initially, the team was scheduled to play four practice matches, but due to circumstances, two practice matches were cancelled. The two other games ended in a victory (against Team VVCS) and a defeat (against Jong KAA Gent).
Captain De Haas: 'More experience'
So a lot of match rhythm Young PSV has not been able to gain much match experience, however, captain Justin de Haas is convinced that his team is in good shape. "We have worked hard. Many guys have the experience of last season as baggage and I think we have made steps compared to that year. Last year wasn't good either, of course. We want to win more, make sure that as many boys as possible can make the step to the first team and show nice football," De Haas told PSV TV earlier this week. An extensive preview with De Haas can be seen here.
Selection
Together with teammates Maxime Delanghe, Chris Gloster and Richard Ledezma, the defender was active at the A-selection training camp this summer. They will rejoin the squad for the game with Excelsior. The same goes for Dennis Vos and Emmanuel Matuta. The two made their unofficial debuts in the first team of PSV earlier this month and can make their first minutes at professional level against Excelsior. Brazilian Felipe Luis also joins the Psv U21 squad. In doubt is Kristófer Kristinsson, who was recruited this week. He is fit, but possibly not yet eligible to play.
Different than usual
Because of all the corona sequences, the competition will be different than usual. Naturally, fewer spectators will be allowed at matches than everyone is used to. PSV Campus De Herdgang can accommodate 380 spectators at matches of Young PSV. They must buy a ticket for the match in advance. Box office sales are unfortunately not possible for the time being. Because all matches from the first period can be seen live on FOX Sports, the starting times have also changed. Usually, duels in the Keuken Kampioen Divisie started at 8 p.m. on Friday night. Now Young PSV's first game is scheduled for Saturday afternoon at 4:30 pm. Find the full match schedule here.
