PSV is a topic of conversation. Always and everywhere. After the sensational match against Vitesse last weekend, there has been plenty of media coverage of PSV again. We list the most important reports.
Malen in the international spotlight
After his phenomenal performance against Vitesse, Donyell Malen is in the spotlight this week. His talent has also been noticed outside the Netherlands. English football website 90min.com introduced readers to our striker: "He is great at keeping possession of the ball, not through sheer power, but through unparalleled technique and ball control." The site also briefly reminds Arsenal fans that Malen once played for their team: "The promising striker was allowed to leave Arsenal, to the surprise of fans who had great expectations of him."
Reon Boeringa: 'Scoring five times is worth a ten '
Voetbal International named Donyell Malen this week's Player of the Week, awarding his performance against Vitesse with the report grade of ten. The football magazine handed out this mark about as many times as Malen's number of goals against Vitesse, five times. This puts the PSV striker in an illustrious list. Club watcher Reon Boeringa speaks highly of the performance: "There is no such thing as a perfect match, but scoring five times is worth a ten. An unprecedented game by Donyell Malen." PSV Women take lead position
PSV women also achieved success this weekend. PSV turned around a deficit in the topper against FC Twente and eventually won the away match 2-3. The team from Enschede had been champions last season. PSV Women are now at the top of the standings with nine points from three matches. A summary of this match can be seen on the NOS website.
Jan Peters: 'Quality at Ihattaren is dripping off'
Despite Donyell Malen appearing five times on the score sheet, team performance also played a big role in PSV's win. The "Elftallen van de Week" of the Algemeen Dagblad, Voetbal International and De Telegraaf feature the trio of Donyell Malen, Timo Baumgartl and Mohamed Ihattaren. Jan Peters, rapporteur for Footballer of the Year, spoke highly of the latter in De Telegraaf. "You can see that the quality is dripping off Ihattaren," Peters said. "He is creative, has a good shot, an individual action and knows how to put fellow players free in front of the goal."
