The draw against Benfica was a bitter pill for PSV. Roger Schmidt's team saw the dream of reaching the group stage of the Champions League shattered. The Head Coach looks back on the frustrating match with captain Marco van Ginkel.
Part of football
"It was a big disappointment," Schmidt said. "We have shown this season that we can create chances and score goals, but today it didn't work out. It's a blow, everyone feels it. We had to score and they didn't make it easy for us. We had great chances, but we also have to capitalize on them. It's part of football that sometimes you don't get what you deserve."
Empty handed
Marco van Ginkel was also visibly disappointed. Still, the league continues next Saturday against FC Groningen. The captain expects his team to keep their heads up: "You can make of it what you want, but it is what it is. The disappointment is great, tomorrow we will still feel this. But after that, the league is waiting again and all eyes should be on that. We've had a nice qualifying series so far. In the end you have nothing, that's very frustrating."
