Mark van Bommel was satisfied with his team's performance despite what he saw as PSV's somewhat inferior start. "We had to get into gear. When that happened, we got into it better," the head coach said after the 4-0 win over VVV-Venlo.
Faster
"If it all takes a little longer and doesn't go the way you like it then you have to start playing football faster. That worked in the end," Van Bommel analyzed. "We got into it better, created some chances and we were lucky that VVV-Venlo missed the one chance they get."
After the opening goal, PSV completely took control of the game. That goal came about after fifteen ball touches, which also involved all of PSV's field players. "That's a nice statistic," Van Bommel smiled. "Through the middle moreover, in which it was very busy. That is quality. Fortunately, we maintained that game after halftime."
Steijn acknowledges superior
"It should be clear that PSV deserved to win tonight," fellow coach Maurice Steijn complimented PSV. The VVV-Venlo coach was hoping, after PSV's busy weeks, for a lesser day, but did not see that come true. "Of course we had a plan, but for that plan to succeed everything has to go along with it. Then, with the third game in seven days, PSV has to be a little less forthcoming and that one chance we get has to go in. That didn't work out. I think this is a very normal, justified defeat," Steijn said.
