PSV is represented in a European Cup tournament for the 42nd year in a row. Tonight, PSV kicks off a new Champions League season against Manchester United.

Bobby Charlton
Several official acts usually take place on a match day, including a board lunch. PSV's management and board enjoyed a culinary lunch at Restaurant Avant-Garde Van Groeninge together with a Manchester United delegation, including 77-year-old Sir Bobby Charlton. Charlton signed a contract with Manchester United at the age of 16 and played more than six hundred games for the club. He was elevated to the peerage in 1994.

UEFA plaque
Prior to the luncheon, UEFA presented the so-called plaque for participation in the 2015-2016 UEFA Champions League season. It is a tradition that every club participating in the UEFA Champions League or UEFA Europa League receives a plaque as a 'Club Partner' of the European Football Union, as proof of participation in one of the two European competitions. On behalf of PSV, general director Toon Gerbrands accepted the plaque, after several years of absence from another Champions League edition. For PSV, it was the fourteenth Champions League plaque already.
