PSV has contracted the transfer-free Ivan Perišic. The 35-year-old winger with more than seven hundred matches in professional football, has signed a contract until the summer of 2025. The Croatian international joins the main squad immediately.
Two weeks after the close of the transfer window, PSV has strengthened its A-squad with UEFA Champions League winner Ivan Perišić. The 136-time Croatian international was still active at the European Championships this summer. He is by no means an unknown in professional football. Fifteen years ago he made his professional debut and since then he has been active in major leagues such as the Italian Serie A, the German Bundesliga and the English Premier League. And in 2018, he played with Croatia in the World Cup final against France.
Experienced force
A number of experienced players left this summer, but with the arrival of Ivan, Director of Football Affairs Earnest Stewart adds six hundred games of club football to the A squad in one fell swoop: "To have that much match experience you have to be a good player, who is almost always fit. Otherwise you are nowhere near that. With the imminent departure of Hirving Lozano there was a vacancy on the wing, but he can perform in many different positions. So with Ivan we kill several birds with one stone."
Ivan says the choice for PSV was a quick one. "Since I've been transfer-free, I've been waiting for an option like this: a club and environment I feel good with and with which I can win prizes. I asked my former teammate Denzel Dumfries for advice, and that only convinced me that PSV is the right move. I can't wait to get started, give everything and win prizes."
Ivan Perišić came from the youth academy of HNK Hajduk Split, but in 2009, on behalf of KSV Roeselare, he made his professional debut in the Belgian Cup tournament. The beginning of an impressive career, in which he was active for Club Brugge, Borussia Dortmund, Inter Milan, Bayern Munich, VfL Wolfsburg and Tottenham Hotspur, among others. This year he landed at HNK Hajduk Split again, but at the end of August club and player jointly put an end to the cooperation. Thus the door was open for a new era in Ivan Perišić's career, the PSV era.
