After the Champions League attention of the past few days, PSV is shifting its focus back to the Eredivisie. Saturday's clash with Willem II, an opponent Mark van Bommel is wary of, awaits at Philips Stadium. "It sounds very cliché, but we cannot underestimate this match. That has everything to do with imperturbability."
Imperturbability
The PSV head coach said this Friday afternoon at the press conference. "I have tried to explain it a number of times, but as a team and a player you must always be imperturbable. No matter who you play against, you must always be able to get the motivation out of yourself. That has to be in the team at some point, come from the guys themselves. Top teams and top players can always produce that imperturbability. That's why they play at the top for years. We are in the process of getting there."
Good game
Last Wednesday, PSV impressed against BATE Borisov. Not only because of the result, but precisely because of the good play. "But," says Van Bommel, "it's not that if we don't play like we did against BATE that it's immediately bad. Top teams don't always play well or exactly the way they want either. Top teams do always win and that is what matters when the performance is not as we would like beforehand. When things aren't going well, you always have to be able to fall back on a foundation. On fight and on commitment. If that is in order, you can get far although of course it does not mean that you then automatically win all matches."
Transfers
By the way, Van Bommel does not expect much to happen in terms of transfers at PSV and is satisfied with the filling out of his selection. "I am extremely satisfied with how the management, especially John de Jong, has put down the selection. Whenever I met him, the light on the phone would constantly light up. How he has dealt with that in cooperation with the rest of PSV's top management is really good. Actually exactly as it should be."
