Due to a lack of luck, PSV failed to win against Ajax. Head Coach Roger Schmidt's combative team was better than the leaders, but stepped off the field after 90 minutes with only one point. As a result, the difference on the league table remains six points. Ajax has played one game less than PSV.

Chess
A tactical game of chess. One in which sometimes one and sometimes the other chose to attack or defend. That was the best way to describe the first half of PSV - Ajax. In the opening stages, Ajax found space between PSV's defense and midfield several times and created danger. Among other things, a cross from right back Timber went against the post via Jordan Teze.

Preponderance PSV
But after a great chance for Denzel Dumfries, after about 20 minutes and narrowly turned by Stekelenburg, it was precisely PSV that determined the course on the pitch. Schmidt's team played maturely, virtually ruled out mistakes and went in search of the Amsterdammers' goal from there. Once this allowed a PSV attacker to shoot between the post and immediately it was also hit. Man in form Eran Zahavi took a free kick five minutes before halftime and scored: 1-0.

Fatigue
In a response, Ajax pulled the game back to itself almost immediately after halftime. With some fresh forces, the visitors pushed PSV further back and created danger through Haller. That seemed to be the start of an offensive on PSV's goal, but Ajax's strength after two grueling months was also less than at the beginning of this calendar year.

Accident
PSV seemed to take advantage of that in the transition. Substitute Yorbe Vertessen shot the 2-0 ten minutes before the end, but VAR detected a handsball. Martinez escaped the attention of the video arbitration a little later, after kicking Zahavi and to make matters worse, Ajax was awarded a penalty in the final minute. Tadic signed for the 1-1 and then "celebrated" the point by looking up Dumfries.
