PSV Women ended the year 2020 with a strong performance against sc Heerenveen. Through goals by Van Dooren and Smits, the Frisians were dealt with.
Rick de Rooij's team started the game well and tried to trouble Heerenveen's defense with high pressure. And that worked well several times. PSV pressed and took the lead within 30 minutes through Kayleigh van Dooren. After a good action on the right side by Ellie Jean, the right back passed the ball well, allowing PSV's number 10 to score the opening goal. Van Dooren could have scored another goal, but after a nice turning away action she failed face to face with Heerenveen's goalkeeper.
Convincing second half
In the second part of the match, PSV added some extra gas. And it was also waiting for the second goal. Joëlle Smits had the opportunities to score that goal. After a good deep pass from Nouwen, the striker got her first opportunity, but she was blocked by the defense. Smits had another chance after a nice cross from Brugts, but this time she aimed just wide of the goal. Often the third attempt is successful and this was the case. Through another good assist by Jean, Smits got to the first post and put the 2-0 on the scoreboard. PSV still had opportunities to go ahead through Aniek Nouwen, but her efforts were unsuccessful.
Thus, PSV Women close 2020 with a strong win over sc Heerenveen and can get ready for the holidays. The next match in the Women's Eredivisie is scheduled for February 14, 2021. Then frontrunner Ajax will visit Eindhoven. On Feb. 5, PSV Women will play the quarterfinals of the cup against PEC Zwolle.
