Striker Joëlle Smits will have to miss the next two (practice) international matches of the OranjeLeeuwinnen against Belgium and Germany. Smits reported to Zeist yesterday but is not fit enough and left the training camp Tuesday morning.
National coach Sarina Wiegman has called up Ashleigh Weerden of HSC Montpellier as a replacement for Smits. The Dutch team with PSV players Sari van Veenendaal and Aniek Nouwen is currently in Zeist preparing for the encounter with Belgium. They will kick off Thursday, Feb. 18 at 8 p.m. in Brussels against the Red Flames, where teammate Julie Biesmans plays. Wednesday, Feb. 24 at 6:30 p.m. follows the meeting against Germany in Venlo.
