At the Eindhoven SportAwards, Joëlle Smits was voted Talent of the Year. Smits stayed ahead of her competition based on her sports performance in 2020 and received the Talent Award from former PSV director Tiny Sanders.
Smits can look back on a successful year with a debut in Oranje, first place with PSV Women and a European debut in the UEFA Women's Champions League against FC Barcelona, in which she scored the first European goals for PSV. In September, it was announced that Smits will leave next season for a European superpower in women's football, VfL Wolfsburg. This makes the 20-year-old attacker from Rosmalen the first paid transfer in PSV Women's history. Besides a first for PSV Women, the transfer is one of the biggest in the history of the Women's Eredivisie.
Smits received the Talent Awards Monday during the sports café at the Jan Louwers Stadium. Smits starts the second half of the season with PSV Women this weekend in the Eredivisie Cup. Her tally in the 2020 - 2021 season now stands at sixteen goals in thirteen officiating matches.le duels.
