In a very special press conference, head coach Roger Schmidt and defender Olivier Boscagli looked ahead to PAOK Saloniki - PSV via a video call.
A press moment under special circumstances. Something the games are now for PSV, which has had to deal with several corona attacks in recent weeks. Still, coach Schmidt is satisfied with what his team is showing. ''We showed last week that, despite in this situation, we are capable of good football. Tomorrow will be tough and we will have to be at our best to get a result.'' And that result is hugely important. ''We now play two duels against PAOK, if you win these, you have a very good chance of reaching the knockout stage,'' Schmidt said.
Boscagli also indicated that it could be a tough night in Thessaloniki. ''It won't be easy. They have drawn twice and will have to win to still have a chance. We will have to focus on ourselves and our own play.''
Rosario's return
Pablo Rosario returned to the squad today, the midfielder was tested negative on Monday. Schmidt is pleased with the return of his vice captain: ''It is very important for us in this situation that players return. We are missing many and Pablo is an important player, but he only trained with the team again for the first time today and we have to see how fit he is and how he is for tomorrow.'' The coach indicated that Rosario has an important role in his team both on and off the field; ''He is also for the team spirit a very important player, a real fighter.''
About the status of the other players, Schmidt could not yet say. ''We can't say when players will be available again. When you test negative again varies from person to person. Fortunately, they have no real symptoms and, as soon as they are allowed again, they can immediately join group training and the match squad. But when it is, that is different for each individual.''
''We will have to do it with the team we have,'' Boscagli added. ''We have a good group for tomorrow and we will be ready.''
The match can be seen live on RTL 7 & FOX Sports 2 tomorrow night at 6:55 pm.
