After the 4-1 victory over VVV-Venlo, captain Denzel Dumfries was speaking to FOX Sports presenter Jan Joost van Gangelen and analyst Arnold Brugging with a smile from ear to ear. Not necessarily because of the win, but because of what happened at halftime. Namely, Dumfries revealed that Roger Schmidt was "a little angry.
"He got a little bit angry yes," Dumfries said after Bruggink asked him what Schmidt had said to PSV's selection at halftime. PSV were still tied against the Venlo natives at that point and certainly did not convince. "If you look at the first half it wasn't enough. We had to put more energy into it and do it as a team, he said. He was absolutely right. In terms of energy, it was scandalous before halftime."
What that was due to, Dumfries did not know. "In the end, we book a deserved win. It wasn't pretty, but the win is the most important thing. Maybe it was because we were a little suspicious. You feel your muscles by now."
The captain failed to score against VVV-Venlo. He could have, because at 0-1, PSV was awarded a penalty kick. Last weekend, Dumfries exploited another one. This time it was up to Philipp Max. "That goes by mutual agreement," Dumfries said. "I looked at him and said, 'You wanna take?' Hahaha. He went in nice."
