For Roger Schmidt, it was a special match against FC Groningen. 2022 was started with a win and Joey Veerman made its debut. Schmidt saw some spots to improve, but all in all he is positive.

Job done
"I'm happy with the win," the Head Coach told ESPN. "An early goal is always nice, we didn't give away much space, but it wasn't a perfect game. A second goal would have been nice to get more rest. We can be happy with the three points and our mentality, though. We did what we had to do and can now move on. You always have to keep fighting."

Veerman
Joey Veerman made his debut today, and if it is up to Schmidt, he seized his moment well. "I'm proud of him," the Head Coach said. "He fell in well and was an important part of the team right away. He shows he can fight and pass well. He definitely helped with getting the three points."

Important week
Now an important week awaits, starting with the cup game against Telstar. Schmidt keeps a cool head as he looks ahead: "The cup is very important for us. We want to advance to the next round. In addition, this match can help us get into a good rhythm and we need that ahead of the match against Ajax on Sunday."
