After a strong season opening, Roger Schmidt must now endure the loss. A tough task awaits in the return, but the head coach sees plenty of opportunities.
Return
"We were the better team, we deserved more than 2-1," Schmidt told RTL 7's camera. "This round consists of two games. Our starting position is not great, but it is certainly still possible." Next week awaits the return in Eindhoven in a sold-out Philips Stadium.
Confidence
Schmidt knows where Benfica's weaknesses lie after the first game of the two-parter. In Eindhoven, he hopes to force more: "They were able to score the goals too easily. But we had strong moments. At halftime we made it clear to each other that we had to stay positive and everything was still possible. That was very important to be able to get back into the game in the second half. That half was also a lot better for us. I'm going into the next match with confidence."
