Roger Schmidt is keen to finish the season in a nice way. In Schmidt's last home game as head coach of PSV, the coach may even want to make room in it for some youthful talents. "It's important for them to take the next step in their development," he said.
Closing
"It's the last home game of the season. That's always a special game," Schmidt knows. "For now, though, we're focusing on finishing this season as well as we can. We want to finish with two wins. For the fans, it would be nice if we can also treat them to an attractive home game once more. NEC will not give in easily. They desperately need the points in the battle for European football."
Important victory
PSV won 2-1 in Nijmegen earlier this season. Schmidt remembers a few things about that match. "It was an important victory in several ways. We didn't start that match well. We then put them under pressure and created a lot of chances. We had to wait a long time for the goals, but fortunately we eventually pulled out the victory. That put us in the lead at the time."
Wide selection
"Maxi Romero gave a beautiful assist on Carlos Vinícius' winning goal," Schmidt reminisced. "That symbolizes this season as far as I'm concerned. We had to use a lot of players due to injuries. Every player has his own contribution. I can only praise the attitude of the substitute players. They are ready when others fall away. Even in positions they are not used to. I can appreciate that very much."
Youthful talent
The match selection includes mostly the same names as last Sunday. "Only Joey Veerman is a doubt. He had a tap on his calf on Sunday. He was able to play out the match, but suffered some discomfort afterwards. The other injured players will definitely not return this season. From Young PSV, Johan Bakayoko, Mathias Kjølø, Dennis Vos and Jenson Seelt will join tomorrow. Perhaps it is a nice opportunity to give them minutes played. It is important that they continue to develop, also with a view to the upcoming season," Schmidt concluded.
