A European away game followed by yet another away game, but on artificial turf. The conditions were not easy for PSV on Sunday, so Roger Schmidt is only too happy with the three points.
Important victory
"Three away games in six days is always a challenge. The conditions were demanding. Because of all the traveling and the fact that you play on artificial turf," the Head Coach said, summing up the circumstances to ESPN. "Then when you fall behind, it becomes even more difficult, but the most important thing is to turn it around. On this field you have to win and not get injured and that seems to have worked out."
No pep talk needed
Schmidt therefore disagreed with the journalist when he criticized PSV's play. "On this pitch it is difficult to play football, especially when it is as dry as it is now. I didn't need to pep up my players for the second half, they knew what they had to do and they executed that, well."
Focus on Wednesday
The German Head Coach was especially pleased with Mauro Júnior, who played as a right back today. "That is quite different from playing from the left side, but he did very well and showed everyone how well he can finish." Meanwhile, he also looks ahead to Wednesday when PSV takes on Go Ahead Eagles in the cup. "We are very happy with the points, but tomorrow the focus goes back to Wednesday."
