The win is not only important for PSV, for Head Coach Roger Schmidt it is also a nice way to celebrate his birthday. At ESPN, he reacts to the game in Utrecht.
Mentality
"The win is more important than my birthday, but it is a nice present," the Head Coach said. "I am very happy and extremely proud of the team. We fought for ninety minutes, worked incredibly hard and showed our best mentality. FC Utrecht is a difficult team to play against, but you could really see from the team that we gave everything for the three points."
Standouts
Joël Drommel played an excellent game today and kept his goal clean. That certainly did not escape Schmidt: "Joël has had some ups and downs lately. He is now showing incredibly well what he can do. He was brave on the pitch and should be very happy today." Zahavi was also one of the standouts with his important goal. "Eran can score when it is needed most, that is one of his main talents. We have a lot of good strikers on this team."
Playing schedule
We have a busy schedule. The title fight is still in full swing, and then you have to win these games," Schmidt said. "We are still competing for the cup, we still have a chance in the Conference League and a lot can still happen in the Eredivisie as well. The season is still long." The return against FC Copenhagen is next Thursday. Schmidt hopes to take an important step there: "We are going to focus completely on that. It's an important match that we have to win."
