PSV did not do well in the Eredivisie on Sunday. The team was much better in the away match against FC Twente for a long time, but failed to win the game. It ended 1-1 in Enschede, increasing the gap to the leaders to four points.
Minute of silence
Perhaps inspired by the impressive minute's silence in memory of Harry van Raaij, PSV started excellently at the Grolsch Veste. Early on, the team took the lead against the Eredivisie surprise. Donyell Malen was on hand in the 8th minute when a corner kick turned by goalkeeper Drommel fell at his feet: 0-1. A little earlier, Drommel prevented an even earlier lead for PSV when Noni Madueke escaped the Twente attention. Eye to eye with the goalkeeper, however, the Englishman missed.
Missed chances
Not only did he have a goal on his shoe in the first half hour. Some promising opportunities involving Eran Zahavi could and sometimes even should have given PSV more. One of these was when, shortly before halftime, he was allowed to touch down from 11 meters, but did not take the penalty. Thus, Head Coach Roger Schmidt could really only be dissatisfied with his team's scoring ability.
Dominant
Indeed, PSV did dominate in Enschede and that while it could not have Mario Götze and Ryan Thomas. Both were struggling with minor injuries. On the other hand, Cody Gakpo, Nick Viergever, Timo Baumgartl and Jorrit Hendrix returned to the squad. The foursome missed a number of games before the last international break due to Corona infections, but PSV seems to have had the worst of it by now.
Dumbass
On the pitch, PSV had to deal with a major setback in the second half. Despite the good play, the equalizer came after an hour of play. After an unfortunate handball by Gakpo, Danilo took the subsequent penalty. It was a goal that made itself felt. Much less than in the sixty minutes before, PSV was still playing power football. FC Twente, on the other hand, seemed to be playing better football. Thanks to Yvon Mvogo, PSV was spared defeat.
