"Whether I can do it too?" laughed Steven Bergwijn, asked about the goal of the evening, scored by Luuk de Jong. "Yes indeed. But this was a really great goal."
Collaboration
Bergwijn was obviously referring to the overhead kick with which De Jong put PSV up 2-0 against sc Heerenveen. In the 52nd minute, the PSV captain performed a trick, after earlier Hirving Lozano had already signed for 1-0 on Bergwijn's cross. "The interaction between me and Lozano goes naturally and also the cooperation with Angeliño goes well. We feel each other well and that's good for the team."
Delicious
"He was delicious," key player De Jong himself described his hit. "I saw the ball coming and knew I couldn't head it. I had to get the ball behind me and immediately noticed that I hit it well. Then when you see it go against the ropes the feeling is wonderful. I'm going to make a copy of the footage to keep at home," he told FOX Sports.
'To savor'
Head coach Mark van Bommel also spoke admiringly about De Jong's goal. "It was to savour. How Luuk shoots that ball in is something you rarely see. This was the only way to hit the ball at all. For a striker this is the ultimate," he told the press conference. Van Bommel was also satisfied with his team's performance. "I think we started concentrated. It was quite difficult to get through. We did score a very nice goal quickly, but after the red card we played a little sloppy. After halftime we play really good football for about seven minutes and in that phase we also scored the 2-0. The only thing you can blame us for after that is that we don't score a lot of goals."
