PSV may be the underdog tonight against Bayern Munich, yet there are statistics Phillip Cocu's team can draw hope from. The last three German teams that traveled to the Philips Stadium, for example, suffered defeat.
Last three wins
PSV is strong at home when it comes to a match against eastern neighbors. They have won from HSV, VfL Wolfsburg and Schalke 04 in recent years, for example. FC Bayern, on the other hand, has not won against a Dutch opponent in the Netherlands since the 1993-1994 season. Back then, FC Twente came back cleverly to 3-3 after trailing 2-0, but Christian Ziege made the winning goal for Der Rekordmeister in the final minute. Since then, Bayern lost twice in the Netherlands and played a draw twice.
Bayern struggles in away matches
On top of that, FC Bayern Munich seems to be struggling in away games both in the league and in the UEFA Champions League. The past four European duels on foreign soil were not won. Of the last three league matches away from home, Bayern only won one. That win, however, was achieved last weekend.
Robben and Lewandowski
Last weekend, for example, the club won 3-1 against FC Augsburg. It was noticeable that Arjen Robben and Robert Lewandowski found each other very easily. Robben played ten Champions League matches for PSV and scored three goals. Lewandowski already scored in the match against PSV in Munich and if he does so again tonight he will pass Roy Makaay and Franck Ribéry on the list of FC Bayern Munich's Champions League top shooters. He will then be on par with Claudio Pizarro.
Result desired
The fact is that the pressure to get a result is great at PSV. After all, if they lose, the club is eliminated from the highest European football stage. If Bayern wins, the club is through to the next round.
