PSV's impressive statistics in away matches could just end in Heerenveen. PSV won thirteen away matches in a row until today, but of the past ten premier league matches in and against Heerenveen, PSV won only twice. Of the last four away matches against sc Heerenveen, PSV lost three and played a draw last season.
Traditionally difficult
So PSV traditionally struggles in Heerenveen. The last win at the Abe Lenstra Stadium dates back to 2011. Of the current selection, Jetro Willems is the only one who was there then. All other PSV players have therefore never won on behalf of PSV in Heerenveen. PSV has scored at least once in the past 34 home matches. There is only one premier league club that ever put up a more impressive series and that happened to be sc Heerenveen between 1995 and 1998. The last time PSV failed to score in an away game was two years ago and that too was against Heerenveen. Daley Sinkgraven then scored the only goal for the Frisians.
Milestone Luuk
So although many statistics are in Heerenveen's favor, PSV need not despair. After all, of the fourteen premier league goals this season, PSV made thirteen away from home. In doing so, Luuk de Jong has traditionally been strong against sc Heerenveen. In ten games, the PSV striker scored eight goals against the Frisians. Only Dirk Kuyt (12) and Blaise N'Kufo (9) scored more often against sc Heerenveen. In doing so, De Jong is approaching a milestone: if he scores against Heerenveen it will be his 50th Eredivisie goal in the shirt of PSV. If he scores twice, he will be on a par with Ronald Koeman, who scored 51 goals in the red and white. By the way, if Luuk de Jong appears at kickoff it will be his 100th official match for PSV.
