PSV wants to break negative cup series against NAC

PSV continues the battle for the TOTO KNVB Cup in the eighth finals against NAC Breda. After the draw in the league at VVV-Venlo, PSV is looking for its first win of the year. In doing so, Ernest Faber's team wants to qualify for the quarterfinals of the cup tournament, and to do so they need to break a negative run.

Fear angels
In the past, NAC Breda has proven to be a true fear opponent for PSV in the cup tournament. The club, which is active in the Keuken Kampioen Divisie this season, has won the past three meetings in the cup. All three times that was in quarter-finals. In the 1993-1994[PB1], 2003-2004 and 2006-2007 seasons, the club from Breda proved too strong. In all three cup matches NAC kept the nil against PSV.

Unbeaten
In the Eredivisie, PSV is more successful in mutual encounters with NAC Breda. It is already seven games unbeaten and in them PSV scored 23 times and only conceded three goals.

100
In the Eredivisie, both teams played exactly one hundred matches against each other. PSV won 63 meetings, NAC Breda triumphed 19 times and 18 times the game ended undecided.

Final
In 1974 both teams met in the final of the cup tournament. In the Rotterdam Kuip stadium, PSV won that game by a large margin against the defending champion at the time: NAC Breda. Big man in that encounter was Willy van der Kuijlen. With three goals he was important in the 6-0 victory.

Cup not PSV's best tournament
PSV lost its previous cup encounter with a team from the Keuken Kampioen Divisie. Last season they lost 2-3 in the second round at home against RKC Waalwijk after extension. PSV does not have a very good track record anyway when the club takes on a first division team in the cup tournament. For example, the last encounter in the eighth finals against first divisionist Roda JC was also lost. In 2014-2015, PSV lost 3-2 after extension.
