After the blow in Enschede, PSV has no time to mourn. Willem II awaits. Given the history, that would seem to be the ideal opponent to wash away the hangover. But the Tilburgers have a tough team this year.
PSV supreme since 2000
PSV has not lost at home to Willem II in the Eredivisie since 1983. Twenty-five times PSV won, two times they drew. Since 2000, the Philips Stadion has not even lost a point against Willem II. In total, PSV has now won the last thirteen home matches against Willem II. Only against Haarlem (fourteen, 1974-1989) and FC Utrecht (1997-present) has PSV had longer series.
Few goals
Earlier this season, however, it remained 0-0 in Tilburg. Significant for the strength and weakness of Willem II this season. After Roda JC, Willem II is the second least scoring team in the Eredivisie. At the same time, the number eleven of the Eredivisie is also the team with the fewest goals against after the top three. Moreover, coach Erwin van de Looi's team already has nine clean sheets. Only Feyenoord, Ajax, PSV and FC Utrecht had more.
Ten men
Last season, PSV won against Willem II with ten men. After almost an hour of play, Santiago Arias received his second yellow. In the 68th minute, Marco van Ginkel still made it 1-0, then Luuk de Jong cashed in a penalty ten minutes later.
