PSV short-changed themselves at ADO Den Haag. The team made it 2-2 in injury time, but based on the game's play they should never have let it get that far.
A lot of pressure
In a bitterly cold Cars Jeans Stadium, the opening phase was clearly for PSV. Roger Schmidt's team developed a lot of pressure and trapped ADO Den Haag in their own half. In the first quarter of an hour, that resulted in a clever shot by Ryan Thomas (narrowly wide) and a good chance for Donyell Malen (also wide), but no goal.
Chance after chance
That the home team took the lead after half an hour through Adekanye was a minor miracle. PSV literally created chance after chance - even after the counter goal - and were also given a penalty kick. It fell to Philipp Max, as the German shot hard over. The first and only opportunity ADO created was a goal. The former PSV youth player and Lazio Roma mercenary was cold-blooded when he got in front of Yvon Mvogo: 1-0.
Assist base debutant
To avoid a slip, PSV had to hunt for the equalizer and more after halftime. The excellent goalkeeper Fraisl, who seemed hardly passable before halftime, soon had to concede the 1-1 draw. Malen poked the ball into the short corner on a cross from Yorbe Vertessen. Max and Vertessen could have put PSV ahead within the hour, but missed great opportunities.
Malen again
After 65 minutes, substitute Mohamed Ihatteren also got to know Fraisl's goalkeeping skills. The 19-year-old midfielder saw his hard shot turned away by the Austrian. A quarter of an hour before time, the game finally worked out: defender Amofa laid a cross from Ihattaren ready for Malen, who capitalized on the opportunity: 2-1. The PSV goal scorer then hit the bar twice. As a result, ADO could still claim a point and succeeded in doing so in the 93rd minute: 2-2.
