PSV lost for the first time this season in the Eredivisie. The team did not play great, but also had little luck with video arbitration.

Team absentees
For Roger Schmidt against Vitesse it was quite improvisational. Due to injuries and positive coronal tests, the PSV head coach was missing almost a full complement of players. Besides him on the bench were only five substitutes, including two goalkeepers. And after just under 10 minutes of play, he also saw his team get a quick goal.

No fist
Vitesse defender Rasmussen nodded the home team into the lead early on from a corner kick. The battered PSV was unable to make a fist of it in the first half. Ryan Thomas took fire from former PSV player Pasveer's goal, as did Mohamed Ihattaren shortly before halftime, but they were unable to create any real danger.

Different face
That was different at the beginning of the second half. For as difficult as it was in the first 45 minutes, PSV came out on top in the first five minutes after the break. And after a Philipp Max free kick that was narrowly turned away, PSV also equalized. This time Olivier Boscagli headed in from a corner kick: 1-1.

Quick counter goal
Yet PSV were soon looking at another deficit. When it looked like Openda was offside, VAR gave the Venezuelan the benefit of the doubt and gave his team the lead again: 2-1. PSV maintained a field advantage after that, but could not convert it into major chances. There were some opportunities, but no big chances to force a draw. Until the final minute, at least so it seemed. Jorrit Hendrix went to the ground in the penalty area after a duel with a Vitesse player, referee Nijhuis whistled for a penalty kick, but VAR Makkelie reversed that decision.
