PSV has to settle for a point after the match against FC Twente. A wide deficit was eventually turned into a 3-3 tie.
Warning
The away game against FC Twente is usually difficult for PSV. That proved to be the case this season as well, after the home side scored early in the match. However, the referee detected a hands ball and disallowed the goal, but PSV had been warned. Unfortunately, FC Twente still managed to open the scoring, and this time VAR did not intervene. The hurdle for PSV became even higher. The home team once again managed to get in front of the goal and get the ball in the net.
Tough task
Finally, things went from bad to worse when the third goal fell as well. Coming back from this deficit seemed almost impossible. After half an hour of play, PSV got into the game better and through Eran Zahavi to a chance through a cross from Philipp Max. Every attack was important. In the end it was Joey Veerman who managed to do something back on behalf of PSV. With a placed shot from distance he passed the goalkeeper. It became more exciting, but there was still a lot of work to do.
Tactics
Intervention took place at halftime. At the start of the second half, three new players entered the field: Cody Gakpo, Noni Madueke and André Ramalho. The latter made his comeback after an absence of three months. The tactical change paid off, as early in the second half Gakpo netted 3-2 with a hard shot from distance. It was getting more and more exciting and slowly there were reasons for cautious optimism, but a lot still had to happen. After a good combination with Mario Götze, Gakpo also seemed to score the equalizer, but the referee ruled it was offside.
Final phase
With 15 minutes to go there was still a deficit on the scoreboard, but PSV stepped up the pressure hard. Gakpo made another fierce effort after good preparatory work by Götze and Madueke also showed himself emphatically. The Englishman almost made it 3-3, but hit the post. The rebound was prey to Ibrahim Sangaré, but the goalkeeper got there just in time. The equalizer finally came in the final minutes, giving PSV a point. A shot by Max was parried and Boscagli was quick to head the 3-3 into the ropes. PSV managed to fight back from a large deficit, but a draw was all that was possible.
