In previous years, Excelsior was actually a client for the right-hand row every year. 'Don't get relegated' seemed to be the motto in Kralingen, and PSV scored frequently in the past five years. But since last summer everything has changed at Woudestein.
Substantially reinforced
Indeed, with Anouar Hadouir, Mike van Duinen and Ryan Koolwijk, the Rotterdammers brought back to the Netherlands many players who had previously caused furor in the Eredivisie. In addition, Hicham Faik and Terrell Ondaan were recruited.
Best season start ever
With the renewed selection, Excelsior may aim higher than the right-hand row. The club has the potential to be a solid mid-table player. With the (shared) best season start ever, Excelsior is eighth with ten points after six games. Excelsior has never managed to have more than ten points after seven games, so a result against PSV would set a record.
Heracles Almelo
The home game against Heracles Almelo was especially impressive. After 22 minutes, the Rotterdammers had already scored three goals, including a fine dash into the crossbar by Koolwijk. Excelsior sent a clear message that night: anyone who thinks they can easily waltz over the Kralingers is seriously underestimating the team.
