PSV ended a couple of intense days with a well-deserved win. A week that will be talked about for a long time to come was concluded with a 4-0 victory over ADO Den Haag.
Turbulent
Thirteen (!) absentees in the A-selection. Another five Young PSV'er not deployable. Head coach Roger Schmidt had a lot of puzzling ahead of the match against ADO Den Haag. Not least because not all players who were on the pitch were fit enough to play a full match. Add to that the special circumstances surrounding the Europa League game with Omonia Nicosia and the denouement in that match, and you know why Sunday night was one of the most turbulent weeks in PSV history.
PSV penalty kick stands: Zahavi scores
One of the few windfalls that fell to Schmidt against ADO was the comeback of Eran Zahavi. With him, PSV started strongly at the Philips Stadium. Thanks to a number of fluent combinations, the team put the visitors under a lot of pressure. The 1-0 lead at halftime was well deserved. After 15 minutes of play, an attack through the heart of the ADO defense ended in a penalty kick for PSV. Zahavi lost his balance, got behind the ball after a VAR-check and scored: 1-0.
Opportunities through Malen and Ihattaren
PSV forgot to increase the score after that. There were certainly chances. For example for Mohamed Ihattaren, who to his own surprise saw two efforts cleared off the line. Donyell Malen also had a good chance to double the score before halftime. On a pass from Ihattaren, he shot over in a free position.
Double-stroke Madueke
Without the duo, who already had to go to the limit last Thursday, PSV did quickly make it 2-0 in the second half. Noni Madueke, who replaced Malen, rounded off a nice attack in the 51st minute with a dry hit from just outside the penalty area. Schmidt's team continued to dominate. Long without pulling the trigger again. Ryan Thomas only did so again in the closing stages. The New Zealander found the far corner on a pass from rookie Richard Ledezma. Later Luis Felipe and Ismael Saibari also made their debuts for PSV and they saw Madueke score once more in the final minutes: 4-0.
