In Heerenveen, PSV did not get beyond a draw. The preponderance was in Eindhoven's hands, but it was not enough to take three points.
Vinícius
In the far north, PSV went up against sc Heerenveen. The hunt for goals was in full swing right away. Within five minutes, PSV was already allowed two corner kicks. The first dangerous moment was for Carlos Vinícius. Bruma made a very neat pass with the heel to put the Brazilian in position, but the striker shot just wide. The same duo also provided the second great chance, and this one did hit the mark. After an excellent cross from Ritsu Doan, Bruma headed through to Vinícius, who shot sharply: 0-1 within the first quarter of an hour.
Chances
PSV continued to play on the attack. Within minutes there were more big chances for the team. Olivier Boscagli was able to score after a counter and Vinícius came close to scoring his second with his head. Ibrahim Sangaré also made an attempt, but lacked the control to strike. The Frisians had little to play for. More than one shot from distance was all they could manage for now. Meanwhile, PSV came up with bigger chances. Bruma was also able to score a fine effort after a Erick Gutiérrez cross. Even Phillipp Mwene stormed along. The right-back found himself in the position of left back and was able to strike, but his shot went just wide. PSV went back to the locker room as if with a narrow advantage.
Tension
It seemed a matter of time before the 0-2 would fall, but it did not. Vinícius was the first to score in the second half, but shot wide. Things stayed hot under sc Heerenveen's feet, especially after PSV were allowed to take three corner kicks in a row. Despite our dominance, the home side managed to do something back. Joël Drommel made a fine save from a free kick, but the rebound was hopeless. Suddenly all the pressure was on to still get the points in the closing stages.
Setback
PSV pulled out all the stops to force a goal. Bruma came awfully close with a shot on the post. Marco van Ginkel also shot, but his effort was blocked. From the tangle that followed it was almost a goal, but the necessary goal did not come. Time was running out, but there was no escape in the final minutes. PSV had to settle for a point in Heerenveen.
