For a long time PSV looked at a deficit against PEC Zwolle, but after five thunderous minutes the lead was taken back and the three points stayed in Eindhoven. André Ramalho, Cody Gakpo and Olivier Boscagli provided PSV's goals.
Hillward
The Eredivisie's bottom club was the guest at Philips Stadium. From the first starting signal, PSV seemed to be going for a quick thump, after a smooth run by Noni Madueke. However, he failed to reach Eran Zahavi for the finish. It was PEC Zwolle who struck first after a smooth switch, where the 0-1 was scored. A deficit within three minutes. It was almost Zahavi who restored the honor. After a clever ball from Marco van Ginkel, the striker was able to strike out, but shot wrong. Later, it was a good deep ball from Phillipp Mwene to Mario Götze that created a great chance, but the scrimmage did not yield a goal. However, it was clear that PSV was going all out to score the necessary goals.
Unpassable
The PSV players provided the necessary work to change the situation. Among other things through smooth dribbles by Madueke, sharp passes by Van Ginkel and Götze and a shot against the crossbar by Zahavi. It was waiting for the equalizer. Even attempts from distance by Van Ginkel, Madueke, Ibrahim Sangaré and Cody Gakpo did not bring the desired result. The wall PEC Zwolle had built up did not prove impossible to break through, but it was not easy either. Madueke cut through the back line with very nice moves, but he did not manage a shot. On the stroke of half-time Olivier Boscagli shot hard at goal and Philipp Max took care of the rebound, but goalkeeper Lamprou was not passed. The Zwolle goalkeeper was put under heavy fire, including a fierce header by Van Ginkel, but could not be passed.
Issue
Thus, PSV faced a tough task in the second half. Two goals was the minimum requirement. Gakpo was the first to attempt one, with a fierce shot into the side netting. Sangaré, who has been opening the scoring more often in recent weeks, also made an acrobatic attempt. Carlos Vinícius came on for Zahavi and immediately looked for his first goal in the red and white. From a corner kick he was served on the head but his effort went over the goal. Substitute Yorbe Vertessen took a shot on goal, but his effort fell into Lamprou's hands. As an additional attacking impulse, Bruma came on to the pitch, hopefully to force something.
Avalanche
The Zwolle wall was still in place in the last quarter of an hour. With all hands, the search was on for a way to break through it. For a moment it seemed hope was lost, and then came the moment the entire Philips Stadium was waiting for. Gakpo delivered a perfect cross to the head of André Ramalho who headed the long-awaited equalizer into the ropes. The first snowflake fell and the avalanche followed, as within five minutes PSV's second and third goals were also in. First by Gakpo, who positioned himself well, received a fine pass from Vertessen and coolly finished. Then it was Boscagli with perhaps the best, after he shot a free kick into the cross behind Lamprou. What long looked like point loss turned into a phenomenal comeback that yielded three points.
