After a league-free weekend, PSV resumes the Eredivisie next weekend against AZ. Earlier this season, the team took the spoils in Alkmaar (0-3). Roger Schmidt's club is eager to stop the club from the Zaan region for the first time since 2018 at Philips Stadium.
Recent encounters
In the fourth round of play of the current football season, Olivier Boscagli, Yorbe Vertessen and Ritsu Doan ensured that PSV drew the longest in Alkmaar. However, the past two editions of PSV-AZ were decided in favor of the Alkmaar side. PSV now hopes to break that run to prevent AZ from becoming the first Eredivisie club in forty years to win three consecutive league games at Philips Stadium.
Cody Gakpo
With Pascal Jansen, Cody Gakpo will meet an old acquaintance at next Saturday's opponent. Gakpo made his debut in professional football on April 4, 2016 in a match of Young PSV under Jansen's care. The Eindhoven native is PSV's most valuable player this season, with six goals and 10 assists.
Supporters
Due to the government's announced relaxations, PSV may finally welcome crowds back to Philips Stadium next Saturday after more than two months. Around 12,000 season-ticket holders will give the team a push in the right direction on Saturday.
Ibrahim Sangaré
At PSV, Ibrahim Sangaré returns to the matchday squad. The physically strong midfielder performed with the Ivory Coast national team at the Africa Cup tournament in recent weeks. Sangaré thus faces his first game in red and white in 2022.
