PSV recorded a 2-1 win over FC Groningen at Philips Stadium. Nicolas Isimat-Mirin scored the decisive goal from a corner kick in the second half.
Early opening goal Wijnaldum
In the first few minutes FC Groningen had a number of chances to take the lead in Eindhoven. However, Jeroen Zoet was ready to take two chances from Van der Velden, among others. Groningen seemed to be the better team for a while, but still it was PSV that struck. Wijnaldum played the ball back to De Jong and received the ball excellently. With a beautifully curled shot he left Groningen goalkeeper Padt defenseless: 1-0. From then on, PSV dominated and had chances through Luuk de Jong. Memphis got past his man and crossed well to the striker, who headed just over. Moments later, PSV got a penalty kick. A fine pass from Memphis put Wijnaldum free in front of the goalkeeper. At the moment the midfielder wanted to strike, he was brought down by Kappelhof. Padt stopped De Jong's shot, but Memphis hit the rebound. Higler disallowed the goal, because Memphis had gone in too early. Just before halftime FC Groningen pressed for time and became dangerous through Botteghin. First he shot over after a corner, but he headed the second corner in a short time: 1-1.
Isimat-Mirin goal
From the first minute of the second half, PSV did everything it could to regain the lead. They succeeded almost immediately, but De Jong headed over from a Narsingh cross. Wijnaldum also had a great chance to make it 2-1. He was played clear by Memphis, but shot wide. In the 66th minute, PSV got what it deserved. A corner kick landed on the head of De Jong, who headed the ball back into the crowd. It ended up with Nicolas Isimat-Mirin, who shot from the turn: 2-1. After that, standout Wijnaldum remained PSV's most dangerous man. After a nice move he shot into Padt's hands and a little later his effort went wide. In the closing stages, PSV had one more big chance when FC Groningen sent the goalkeeper in for the last chance. That failed, allowing PSV to get out. Memphis tried to fire into the empty goal from the halfway line, but he aimed wide. Otherwise, there were no real big chances and PSV could easily hold on. Thus, after the 0-3 victory over Go Ahead Eagles, PSV recorded their second win in a row: 2-1.
