Kenneth Paal is facing his debut with PEC Zwolle and can do so Sunday against PSV. The club where he was trained, where he became champion and which has rented him out this season to Mark van Bommel's team's upcoming opponent.
Fit
That Paal has not yet played for PEC has largely to do with an injury, which he suffered in preparation for this season and sidelined him during the first two games of the season. Paal suffered a hamstring injury in early July. After his recovery, the defender played in the practice matches against Gent and Hannover, before suffering another injury in training. "But now I'm completely fit, ready to play games. I am now training with the group for a week."
So you could just debut against PSV. ..
"Haha, indeed. That would be special. Of course it will be special for me, but I am really looking forward to it. PSV has started well, we have unfortunately had two defeats, a little less. We want to do better on Saturday. Do I want to win? Definitely. PSV can win every game from me, except from PEC."
How do you like Zwolle, Kenneth?
"Good, very good. I've been living there for two months now and I like it very much. It's a bit different from Eindhoven. A lot quieter especially."
And the team?
"It's an incredibly fun team with guys of different ages. I feel very much at home."
What are your goals for next season?
"Especially a lot of learning. The coach (John van 't Schip, ed.) has a lot of confidence in me. He also says that I have to use this year to learn a lot and gain experience. So I can eventually return stronger to PSV. He also wants me to dare to make mistakes. You learn the most from that."
Speaking of PSV, do you follow the club?
"Of course I follow PSV. I watch every game. It's nice to see that the team started the season with two wins."
Looked at Tuesday as well?
"What were you thinking? I was screaming joh, not normal. That 2-2 was really unfortunate, but at that goal by Donyell (Malen, ed.) I jumped up from the bench. Hopefully PSV will finish it off on Wednesday, but I'm confident about that."
