In the first home game of this Eredivisie season, PSV beat SC Cambuur. With a convincing 4-1 victory, PSV was a size too big for the Frisians.

Flying start
PSV had a flying start to the match. Within the first few minutes it almost hit the target after a very smooth attack. A clever pass from Eran Zahavi gave space to Mauro JR, who was unable to get a good shot off from a difficult angle. Thus, already the opening goal was almost on the board within a minute. Where PSV sought space on the pitch, Cambuur sought it via the long ball, which mostly ended in the hands of Joël Drommel. At the other end of the pitch, PSV almost hit the target three times. These included a distance shot by Bruma, header by Armando Obispo and a clever combination between Zahavi and Cody Gakpo. Zahavi eventually came closest in the opening stages. A free kick just outside the sixteen-meter area was saved by Cambuur's goalkeeper.

Three minutes, two goals
The ice was finally broken by Davy Pröpper. From a corner kick by Gakpo, he got the ball perfectly served to his head and headed into the far corner for the opening goal. The Philips Stadium was still churning from the 1-0 but the fans were given no time to recover. Cheers were also allowed by Zahavi. The striker received a very clever pass from Bruma at his feet, looked for space himself and shot into the far corner, 2-0. In three minutes, PSV went from a tie, to a lead by margin. The Israeli was almost allowed to account for the third goal. After a one-two with Bruma, he was free to strike, but the shot rolled several centimeters wide of the goal. In the closing minutes of the first half, crosses came pouring in. But the score at halftime was already on the board.

Sharp
A modified PSV came onto the field after halftime. Zahavi, Gakpo and Mauro JR remained in the locker room and were replaced by Vertessen, Madueke and Thomas. Invaders or not, it took Madueke only minutes to score. Jordan Teze gave a hair-trigger pass to the Englishman. Madueke did not hesitate, lashed out and scored the third goal of the evening. With little resistance from the visitors, PSV continued to play finely. Bruma, who had a fine evening, made another worthy attempt that was just prey to Cambuur goalkeeper Stevens. The opponent, however, did not give in. A Friesian offensive ended with a shot into the short corner that was unstoppable for Drommel.

New life

PSV got new forces on the pitch in the closing stages, with Mario Götze and Ibrahim Sangaré. They came into the lines for Davy Pröpper and Marco van Ginkel. In the closing stages, it was Bruma who was all too eager to get his goal. After a dodge, the Portuguese shot fiercely, but hit a Cambuur defender. Shortly after, the striker gave another excellent pass to Teze, who failed to pass Stevens in the short corner. Vertessen was also cleverly served by Bruma, but shot just wide of the goal. In the very last minutes of the game, Olivier Boscagli got a deflected ball at his feet, took a hard shot and scored a goal. Three points and four goals brought self-confidence to PSV ahead of the game with Benfica.
