After five rounds of play, PSV is sole leader of the Eredivisie. The team won 0-3 at PEC Zwolle on Sunday and saw sc Heerenveen and Feyenoord lose points earlier in the day. In Zwolle, Mario Götze and Ibrahim Sangaré made their debuts for PSV and one of them immediately made his mark.
Super Mario
It took Mario Götze only eight minutes to score his first goal on Dutch fields. The German, who to the surprise of some started in PSV's starting lineup, picked up a too soft back pass from former PSV player Leemans early in the match. The newcomer then rounded goalkeeper Zetterer and easily slid the 0-1 into the empty goal.
Press
That goal did not come about by chance. PSV was convincing in the first quarter of the match with pressure football and quickly increased their lead. After 18 minutes, PSV changed gear at lightning speed and an attack over many sections ended up at the feet of Cody Gakpo. He signed for 0-2 with a foot strike and saw Donyell Malen score 0-3 shortly before halftime.
Mvogo
In between those two goals, PEC, which until then had not made a strong impression, fought back. Mvogo distinguished himself twice by stopping a seemingly certain goal, including a penalty. After halftime, PSV's goalkeeper had significantly less to do. Roger Schmidt's team seemed to be okay with 0-3, while PEC could not make a fist of it.
Standings
Thus, PSV could move unthreatened to the lead it now holds after five games. Closest pursuers Ajax and Vitesse follow on one point, the latter team meets PSV in a week in Arnhem. First they will play Granada on Thursday.
