PSV chases hundredth goal against Atlético

Atlético Madrid was not a familiar opponent for PSV, but that will change this year. Indeed, both teams will meet Tuesday night for the third time in 2016. The team could have something extra to celebrate with a good result tonight.

Fiftieth zero
Indeed, if PSV manages to find the net twice tonight, it will achieve a milestone. The club stands at 98 goals in the most important European club tournament. In addition, goalkeeper Jeroen Zoet can reach a personal milestone: he can keep the zero for the 50th time in his career. It could be both, as PSV is going strong in European home matches. Of the last 10 European home matches, PSV won six and two ended undecided.

Loss at home
Before this year, the teams met only in the group stage of 2008. On Sept. 16, 2008, both teams faced each other at Philips Stadium. In the first match in Pool D, PSV lost 3-0 through goals by Sergio Agüero (2) and Maniche.

Koevermans
Four duels will be added this calendar year. The first two ended in 0-0 this spring. PSV has only scored once in the previous meetings. That goal was scored by Danny Koevermans at the Vicente Calderon on November 26, 2008, in a game that lost 2-1. PSV has thus not won on the previous occasions.

Practice matches
The balance between the two is slightly more positive for PSV when practice matches are also considered. The teams played five practice matches in their history. Of those, PSV won two, in 1984 and 1988. The match also ended in draws twice (1984 and 1997). Atlético was too strong once, that was in 1993.
