PSV recorded its seventh consecutive victory in the Eredivisie. Although Willem II was still ahead at halftime, Jurgen Locadia and Memphis Depay gave PSV the win in the closing stages.
Rescues Lamprou
Despite falling behind, PSV was far from the lesser team on the pitch. Willem II owed much to goalkeeper Kostas Lamprou, who made many saves and kept his club on their feet time and time again. Attempts by Memphis Depay, Karim Rekik and Georginio Wijnaldum had him at the ready. Wijnaldum had a good header on goal after a Memphis cross, but Lamprou saved with a cat-like reflex. The Tilburgers did strike from one of the opportunities. The ball rolled over the back line and while everyone at PSV thought it was a goal kick, referee Tom van Sichem gave a corner. It was headed in by Robert Braber. PSV tried to force a goal before halftime and almost succeeded. Lamprou saved Memphis' free kick and from the ensuing corner the left winger's effort was cleared off the line.
PSV converts deficit
PSV started brightly in the second half and put a lot of pressure on Willem II. However, this did not lead to many chances in the early stages. It took until minute 67 before PSV could become dangerous via Luuk de Jong. A high pass from Rekik landed exactly on his head, but the striker headed just wide. Twenty minutes before time, Phillip Cocu brought on an extra striker with Jürgen Locadia and that changed the game. Just five minutes later he broke through the Willem II defense and was brought down in the penalty area by Kostas Lamprou. He received a red card for a similar foul in the first match and now received a yellow card. Memphis shot the penalty kick over and the team continued to search for goals. Willem II had had few chances and failed to close the gap through Jerson Cabral. He hit the post and that cost Jurgen Streppel's team dearly. Lamprou had no answer to a Locadia effort and three minutes later Memphis shot the 2-1. Willem II saw the points go up in smoke. It had no answer to the game of PSV, which thus recorded its seventh win in a row in the Eredivisie.
