After last week's 1-0 victory at Philips Stadium, PSV will try to qualify for the next round of the Conference League in Israel next Thursday. With the win over Maccabi Tel Aviv, PSV already equaled a new club record. Cody Gakpo and Marco van Ginkel are not traveling due to various circumstances.
Changes
Compared to last week, Olivier Boscagli, Ibrahim Sangaré and Carlos Vinícius return to the matchday squad. The trio served a suspension in the outward game. Gakpo will not travel to Tel Aviv due to minor ankle problems in the game with sc Heerenveen last Sunday. Van Ginkel and Maxime Delanghe cannot be there because they tested positive after a previous infection. Also Armando Obispo, Ryan Thomas and Maxi Romero are not yet fit.
History
PSV has played on Israeli soil twice before in a European context. In 2009, the team won 1-0 against Bnei Yehuda thanks to a goal by Ibrahim Afellay. Two years later, it triumphed against Hapoel Tel Aviv with the same figures thanks to a hit penalty by Georginio Wijnaldum.
Record
Besides qualifying for the next round of the Conference League, PSV can also secure a club record. Thursday's match against Maccabi will be the fourteenth European match of the season. Never before has PSV played at least fifteen games in the same European season.
Ten years ago
The last time PSV was the best in a second leg of the knockout phase of a European tournament dates back to the 2011-2012 season. Back then, the Turkish side Trabzonspor was dealt with over two matches. That was also the last time PSV won an away game in a knockout phase.
