PSV started the second block of matches of this season well. Coach Phillip Cocu's team had no problems at all with N.E.C. and won 0-4 in Nijmegen, a score that was already on the board after 24 minutes. With the win, PSV equaled its own Eredivisie record of 12 wins in a row, which dates back to 1988. In addition, PSV is leader for at least one day.
Dream start
In Nijmegen, PSV had a dream start thanks to starting player Bart Ramselaar. Already in the 4th minute, the midfielder broke through the N.E.C. defense after a good run to finish hard: 0-1. Ramselaar, whose starting place was at the expense of Andrés Guardado, saw Gastón Pereiro double his score barely six minutes later. The Uruguayan was the terminus of a razor-sharp PSV counter and put the 0-2 on the scoreboard on a pass from Luuk de Jong, which also enabled Ramselaar to score. Fifteen minutes later it was already 0-4. First through Brenet who after a rush nodded a Pereiro cross behind N.E.C. goalie Joris Delle, followed by De Jong's 0-4.
Lundqvist's debut
With that score N.E.C. and PSV also went to the dressing room. Right after halftime Pröpper could have lifted the score. The midfielder appeared face to face with Delle after a good run, but hit the ball so wrong that the goalkeeper could easily pick it up. In the second half, if PSV had been a bit sharper in the final pass, they could have pulled even further away from Nijmegen. However, with next month's busy schedule ahead, the foot went off the gas pedal a bit. Swede Ramon Pascal Lundqvist (19) did make his debut for PSV ten minutes before time, leading the Eredivisie with 13 points from five games for at least a day. Feyenoord can reach 15 points Sunday afternoon. That same Feyenoord will visit Philips Stadium next Sunday. On Tuesday, PSV plays Atlético Madrid in the UEFA Champions League.
