PSV qualified for the quarterfinals of the TOTO KNVB Beker on Tuesday night thanks to a 0-2 victory over FC Volendam. Head coach Roger Schmidt's team won the game after halftime. Next Saturday is the draw for the quarterfinals.

Wind
In the first half, PSV had their hands full with FC Volendam. Perhaps somewhat aided by a strong tailwind, most of the chances and the best of the game were for the home club, who found a real stumbling block in Lars Unnerstall. The German goalie was preferred to Yvon Mvogo and excelled with some cat-like reflexes.

Chance Mauro
Unnerstall had fourteen shots fired at him before halftime and his double save on the stroke of half-time certainly deserved attention. From a seemingly defeated position he kept two Volendam attackers from scoring. PSV could do little in return, except for one big chance for Mauro Junior. The Brazilian was put away by Noni Madueke, but could not pass goalkeeper Roggeveen one-on-one.

Madueke puts PSV ahead
Madueke succeeded in doing just that about five minutes after halftime. From the edge of the box, the English striker found the free corner next to the FC Volendam goalie and gave PSV the lead: 0-1. The goal brought some calm to Schmidt's team and Denzel Dumfries almost made it 0-2 after 70 minutes. The back steamed up along the sideline as usual and found the crossbar with a surprising effort.

Decision
PSV had little more to fear from FC Volendam. As good as the team played before halftime, it forced little in the second half. It was somewhat waiting for the final knockout and that came from the penalty spot. Dumfries got behind the ball after a foul on himself and shot the 0-2 via Roggeveen's hands.
