PSV knows the setting for its eighteenth Eredivisie game of the season in Utrecht's Stadion Galgenwaard. Head coach Peter Bosz and his team will have the chance against the Domstadelingen to break a historic record, a milestone the coach looks forward to with pride.
"Equaling the record is already unique, but if we go over it, that's extra special," Bosz said. In the 1987-1988 season, PSV won its first 17 games, so with a good result against the Utrechters, the team could become the first team ever to win its first 18 games of a season. "That the record is 36 years old means it was hard to break. If we can shoot the iconic 1988 team out of the history books, we should not fail to do so. Looking at the dominance with which we can arrive at the record, I think that's even better."
Injuries
Midfielder Joey Veerman will have to miss the match against FC Utrecht, Bosz announced. He suffered an injury during the warm-up prior to the cup game with FC Twente and has not yet recovered. Jerdy Schouten dropped out in the second half of that game due to coughing complaints, Bosz does not want to rule out his absence in Utrecht. "That must be evident from the final training."
Compliments
The Apeldoorner has nice words to say about Yorbe Vertessen. The Belgian was treacherous in the midweek TOTO KNVB Cup match with FC Twente and was named Man Of The Match. "I think Yorbe is a very good footballer, who has made great strides this season in staying calm in front of goal. I can remember the away games at Sevilla FC and Vitesse, when he was very important for us. We need players like Yorbe to become champions."
